    Solid, Serious Tool

    This tool is well-made, and it worked in my situation. My feet are wide in front, narrow in the heel, and with a high instep. My second toe is longer than my big toe. My feet have also "grown" about a full shoe size as I have gotten older. I don't have bunions, so I'm not reviewing the attachments for bunion pressure points. This stretcher did not make my older shoes fit again, but it helped a lot with the newer ones that were only a half-size or less too small. It worked perfectly for pairs that fit well in the heel, and just needed a good stretch in the instep and ball to make them comfortable. There are separate adjustments for length and width. The width adjustment stretches wider toward the ball of the foot than the instep, so the improvement in the instep is modest. Of course, in many shoes, you are stretching more layers at the instep. I have all top-quality shoes, so I have not yet resorted to wetting the leather (as the directions say), to protect it. No doubt you would get faster results with water or Fiebing's Shoe Stretch. Without water, the stretcher worked really well for me on fine calf and supple bison leather, but only moderately well on heavy cowhide and cordovan. It's a good tool, and I'm glad I bought it.

    Does the job, as advertised

    The Shoe Stretcher performs as advertised. What distinguishes it from ordinary shoe trees, when used to stretch shoes, is its design and capacity to stretch shoes in length and/or width. The threaded steel rod and hard wood core make the difference. Recommend especially for gaining some length in shoes that are too tight (ordered by full, not half, sizes).
